Dr. Bruce Andrea, M.D.

Dr. Andrea graduated from Dartmouth College in 1979 with a degree in Biology and Ecology. Thereafter, he received his Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology from Michigan State University in 1982, After graduating from Dartmouth Medical School in 1986, he moved to Madison for his residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, remaining an extra year to be Chief Medical Resident. From 1990 to 1994, he completed his subspecialty training in Cardiology at the University of Colorado in Denver, with research work in heart failure and exercise performance. Dr. Andrea was medical director of the Wellness Center at Mercy Medical Center in Durango, Colorado for eleven years and for two years was chairman of the Department of Medicine and he has now opened Performance Cardiology. His new practice will combine cardiovascular medicine and exercise physiology, with the plan to be involved across the spectrum of health and performance; from acutely ill patients and recovering heart patients, to aspiring and elite athletes. An eventual goal will be to advance the field of mid, and high altitude physiology as it impacts both training and performance of heart patients, and junior, sub-elite and elite athletes alike.

He has coached the Freshman Crew Team at Dartmouth as well as coxing the 1980 Olympic Rowing Development Team, coached the Michigan State Crew to second place team finish at the Midwestern collegiate championships and during the summer of 1982 he was an assistant coach for the U.S. Men’s National Heavyweight Crew Team.
